Manually Formatting a Chart

This tutorial provides step by step instructions on how to manually format a chart. We recommend, whenever possible, you should automate formatting of your charts using Rule Driven Charts.

  1. Select the FILE RIBBON (FILERIB.png) and then click on the openfile.png Open button.
  2. Click on the folder called Tutorials.
  3. Double-click on the file called Tutorial 4.
  4. Make sure the EDIT CHART RIBBON (EDITCHARTRIB.png) is selected.
  5. Select the top box of the chart by clicking on it.
  6. Select the Double Border option using the boxborder.png Box Border tool.
  7. Add a shadow by clicking on the boxshadow.png Box Shadow tool.
  8. Set the font to bold using the bold.png Bold tool.
  9. Click and drag to select all boxes on the second level (make sure your initial click is just above and to the left of the first box on the second level).
  10. Set the background color to gold (or any other color) using the boxfillcolor.png Box Fill Color tool.
  11. You can also change the format of individual cells within boxes.
  12. Click on the assistant box (just below and to the right of the top box) and then click on the title, Exec. Assistant.
  13. Click on italic.png ITALIC tool to change the style of the title.
  14. Congratulations! Your now know how to manually format chart boxes.

Tips and Tricks

  • Use the Fast Select tool to quickly select a set of boxes in your chart.
  • Use the Copy Format tool to speed up chart formatting.
  • You can use Ctrl+A to select all boxes in a chart.
  • You can use Shift-click to extend the current selection.
