FTP stands for "File Transfer Protocol". It is an Internet service specially designed to establish a connection to a particular server so that users are able to transfer files from their computer to a server. SFTP stands for "Secure File Transfer Protocol" - it is just a more secure version of FTP.

FTP/SFTP can be used to achieve the following tasks in OrgChart:

  1. Push a data file to OrgChart. The data file can then be imported using the Excel/CSV Connector.
  2. Push employee photos for inclusion in org charts.
  3. Push user account information to synchronize users logins with customer identity management system (e.g. Active Directory or similar). See the User Management topic for details.


Any FTP/SFTP Client can be used to upload/download files. We recommend https://filezilla-project.org/ if you do not already have an FTP/SFTP Client installed on your computer.
