Overview

The Box Locking function allows you to preserve manual changes to box content, box presentation and reporting relationships across data refreshes.

Box Locking Options

The following options are available for locking:

  • Lock content - The content of locked boxes will not be updated when data is refreshed.
  • Lock layout - The presentation of locked boxes will not be updated when data is refreshed.
  • Lock as subordinate to manager - Manually changed reporting relationships will not be updated when data is refreshed.
  • Do not delete - Manually added boxes will persist when data is refreshed.

How to Lock/Unlock Boxes:

The box locking function is only available for chart created from an external data source. To lock/unlock a box:

  1. Open the desired chart
  2. Select the REFRESH RIBBON
  3. Select the locking.png Locking icon
  4. Check/uncheck the desired options
  5. Click OK

The next time the chart is refreshed any locked properties will persist based on the selected options.

Notes
The append data function is the recommended approach if you have more than 5 manual changes you want to persist across refreshes. The append data function uses a spreadsheet to specify all changes (add, moves, updates and deletes).

Tips and Tricks
To determine which boxes in a chart are locked, use the Export to Excel function. A report detailing all locked boxes can be generated.
