Using the Import Wizard

This tutorial provides step by step instructions on how to automatically create an org chart from an Excel file. See the Data Connectors topic for information on how to automatically create charts from other external data sources.

  1. Select the FILE RIBBON (FILERIB.png) and then click on importwiz.png Import button. Select the EXCEL/CSV option.
  2. Click on the Import Data button. Click on the folder called Samples. Double-click on the file called Sample Data.
  3. After the data is loaded, the FILTER DATA step is displayed. Optionally, you can import a sub-set of your data file by defining a filter (e.g. Department = 'Marketing'). For this tutorial, click the Next button to import the entire file.
  4. DEFINE FIELDS step: Usually OrgChart automatically selects the required fields for you; however, if your data contains different field naming conventions, you can manually select the mappings. Click on the Next button when done.
  5. ASSISTANT WIZARD step: OrgChart allows you to set assistant branch styles based on a set of rules. For this tutorial make sure that the 'use "isAssistant" field to set assistant branch styles' is selected. Click Next.
  6. SUBCHART WIZARD step: Optionally, you can break your chart into multiple pages (this is recommended for over 50 boxes). Select Do not insert breaks option and then click on the Next button.
  7. SELECT CHART TEMPLATES step: Select any chart template (e.g. Classic Manager) and then click on the Next button.
  8. Finally the MASTER PAGE step is displayed. Select the Standard Master Page option and then click on the Create Chart button.
  9. Congratulations! You've automatically created an org chart from external data. You can now automatically synchronize the chart with the data source using the Refresh function. When a chart is refreshed, all records that are added, deleted, moved and/or changed (in the source data) will automatically be incorporated into the chart.
