Using the Box Layout Editor

This tutorial provides step by step instructions on how to use the box layout editor. If you plan on automating your org charts, you'll use the box layout editor to create Box Styles (which are a keep component of automated charts).

  1. Select the FILE RIBBON (FILERIB.png) and then click on the openfile.png OPEN button.
  2. Click on the folder called Tutorials.
  3. Double-click on the file called Tutorial 6.
  4. Make sure the EDIT CHART RIBBON (EDITCHARTRIB.png) is selected.
  5. Select the top box by clicking on it.
  6. Click on the boxlayouteditor.png Layout tool. The Box Layout Editor is displayed.
  7. Let's add another field to the box. Select the cell containing the word <Title>.
  8. Add a row to the box by clicking on the RowBelow.png Insert Row Below tool.
  9. Now drag the field called <Location> from the field picker (on the left) into the new cell.
  10. Click on the Preview checkbox (Preview.png).
  11. Set the Box Width to Fixed (fixedwidth2.png) and then use the green arrow (GreenArrow.png to resize the box to the desired width.
  12. Finally, to apply the change to the entire chart, select the Entire Chart radio button (at the bottom) and then click OK (at the top) to exit the box layout editor.
  13. Congratulations! You've used the Box Layout Editor to change the format of your chart.

Tips and Tricks

  • See the Box Layout Editor topic for more information about available options.
  • The recommended setting for box width and box height is Auto (Smart). These options will automatically size boxes in your chart.
  • You can use the -/+ box width controls (at the bottom) to do fine adjustments on the width.
